EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

MUANA is a community-driven, children focused non-profit and non-governmental organization, helping communities in Africa tackle the root cause of poverty and create sustainable development. In each community, we take a holistic approach by focusing on four major areas of community problems; EDUCATION, HEALTHCARE, AGRICULTURE & ADVOCACY FOR WOMEN & CHILDREN.

Lack of access to affordable healthcare is a major contributing factor to poverty in Africa. In Muana, we believe that a society without access to affordable healthcare would not be able to build a productive workforce. Therefore, would not be able to rise out of poverty. We invest in healthcare mostly within the school systems of rural communities to support families with children within the school system. This serves as a catalyst to encourage families to send their kids to school.

The majority of the rural people of Kalangba in Bombali District in the Republic of Sierra Leone are poor, and depends on dangerous traditional Africa medicines for remedies from illness in the absence of the only modern hospital in the entire chiefdom of thousands of inhabitants. Women and children are usually the most vulnerable to such dangerous practices.

The kalangba hospital was the only modern hospital in the entire chiefdom. Currently the hospital is shutdown due to the complete erosion of the building making it dangerous for habitation. Before then, additional and greater demands were being made on an already dilapidated, underfunded, under staffed, and ill-equipped hospital that could no longer meet its core functions.

The rural poor are usually marginalized and deprived of all kinds of public facilities, yet they play a vital role in our socio-economic development. When people are poor and malnourished, they are susceptible to diseases. Without access to affordable healthcare, they would not be able to work; exacerbating the poverty.

Therefore, those of us in MUANA committed to the mission of reducing poverty have taken the challenge of asking for your help for funds and any other necessary support to renovate this hospital. Below is an estimate submitted by community leaders with the help of a project technician and construction contractor.

This was the MAKESHIFT AMBULANCE the hospital depended on. It's no more. A DONATION OF AN AMBULANCE even used would be very helpful.

This was the only source of water, a borehole water that is no longer functioning. We would definitely need a water process unit to go with a replacement borehole.

CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF MATERNITY AND CHILDREN'S WARDS: A Heart-Wrenching Story A bereaved mother, who has lost her husband, is now facing an unimaginable challenge as her twin babies fall ill. Due to the absence of adequate maternity and children's wards, she is forced to wait in the hallway with her vulnerable infants. This situation highlights the dire need for dedicated maternity wards to ensure proper care for expectant mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Additionally, such facilities are crucial for the well-being of newborns, like these twin babies, who require specialized attention. Your support is urgently needed to help address this critical shortage and ensure that mothers and babies receive the essential care they deserve.
